Meeting Minutes Oct. 24th, 2006Initial meeting of the LON-CAPA Academic Consortium, Oct. 24th, 2006University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Participants:
Institutional representation: one vote per participant. Gerd Kortemeyer was elected Chair. The commitment document submitted by Simon Fraser University for Associate Membership was accepted by the Board. Gerd Kortemeyer will work on trademarking "LON-CAPA" and the logo. Cluster membership will be revisited. Institutions with un-maintained servers (more than two versions behind current production release) and running .99-releases will be contacted by Gerd Kortemeyer in November and, should the machines not be updated, be contacted again in February. Continually un-maintained machines will be disconnected in May. Already disconnected institutions will not be reconnected unless the machines are updated. Guy Albertelli will provide list of currently installed versions. New cluster membership applications will be approved or declined by the board. Michael Edwards will explore the possibility of issuing UIUC-signed SSL certificates to cluster members. Release schedule will remain unchanged for now, conference in May will address "upcoming features." The next LON-CAPA conference will take place May 17th-19th at UIUC. Alejandra Stenger presented results from an informal survey of 2005 conference attendees.Thursday will be a pre-workshop with basics LON-CAPA training sessions, Friday and Saturday be regular conference days with embedded advanded training sessions. There will be parallel tracks for secondary and post-secondary faculty. Registration cost will be $20 for the pre-workshop, $65 for the conference, and approximately $30/night for dormitory accommodations. The venue may be the UIUC Alumni center. UIUC will contact ATLAS for e-commerce solutions to collect registration fees. UIUC and MSU will explore commercial sponsorship for the event. The conference website will be hosted by UIUC. Alejandra Stenger will coordinate conference arrangements at UIUC. At the upcoming future directions meeting, proactive measures to guarantee continued scalability of the cluster need to be addressed. - Gerd Kortemeyer.
